Deworming
Puppies and kittens are especially vulnerable to intestinal parasites, including roundworms and hookworms. Many pets are, unfortunately, born with these parasites. Our team will recommend deworming treatments and fecal testing to check for intestinal parasites. We will establish a parasite prevention plan to protect your puppy or kitten from fleas, ticks, heartworms, and other common parasites as they grow.
Vaccines
Vaccinations protect your puppy or kitten. Our veterinarians develop individualized vaccination schedules based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and risk factors. Microchipping

When should I schedule my pet's first veterinary appointment?
We recommend scheduling your puppy or kitten’s first veterinary appointment as soon as you bring them home. Many preventive treatments begin around 6 to 8 weeks of age, but it’s never too early to have your new pet examined by a veterinarian! An early visit allows our team to assess their health right away.
What should I bring to my puppy or kitten's first vet visit?
For your young pet’s first visit, please bring any medical records or vaccination history provided by their breeder, shelter, or rescue organization. We encourage you to bring a list of any questions you have about feeding, behavior, training, or general puppy and kitten care, too.
Can your veterinarians treat my kitten or puppy if they're sick?
Yes! In addition to routine puppy and kitten wellness care, TotalCare Veterinary & Surgical Center offers urgent care services for sick pets. If your puppy or kitten is experiencing symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, or a loss of appetite, please contact us as soon as possible to schedule an urgent care appointment. Please note that if your pet is sick, we will not be able to give them vaccines, as their immune system is already working to fight off an illness.
